Graphic LCD Portable Dissolve Oxygen Meter: HI 98186
Top of the line DO meter is loaded with features

This deluxe DO meter does it all.
Record BOD data by bottle number. Indicate "seeded" BOD data with an
asterisk designation (*). Show starting and ending DO values and
automatically calculated and stores BOD data. Collected data can be
transferred to a PC log program which aids in record keeping when in a typical
laboratory dissolved oxygen readings are taken on multiple samples.
Temperature, salinity and barometric pressure compensation are all factored in
the readings. This makes the extremely rugged military cased HI 98186 DO
meter a valuable addition to any lab.
Totally waterproof field
meter with inductively charged rechargeable batteries and a large graphic
display allows the user to see and command large amounts of data. This unit is
very easy to use and even has an extensive help menu.
DO: Dissolved Oxygen
This meter can measure DO
in either mg/l or as percent saturation. Temperatures can be read in either F
or C and the internal barometric pressure can be measured in a variety of common
units. As with all DO measurements, water movement is required. A moving
stream, motion of the probe or a stirring bar is normally employed.
SOUR: Specific Oxygen
Uptake Rate
This is also referred to as
the oxygen consumption or respiration rate. Measuring the amount of oxygen (mg)
consumed per gram of volatile suspended solids (VSS) per hour is defined as
SOUR. This test is very quick to make as opposed to a five day BOD. It has
other advantages as well. It is a rapid measure of influent organic loading
and/or toxic/inhibitory wastes. Using this test one can easily determine the
oxygen demand rate at various points (such as an aeration basin)SOUR= OUR
(Oxygen Uptake Rate) per weight of solids.
OUR: Oxygen Uptake Rate
This is an absolute
respiration rate based on beginning and ending DO over a time interval. The
meter will calculate the value for one hour even though the actual test could be
much shorter.
BOD: Biological Oxygen
Demand
Diluted samples are kept in
the dark for five days and then measured for DO. The amount of DO lost is
corrected by the dilution factor and then referred to as: BOD/5 or BOD5. The
meter can keep track of 400 samples each with a unique bottle number, dilution
factor, seed volume, time and date. The meter can at any point calculate the
BOD level and log the result. The tracking and logging functions together with
the mathematical capabilities make this a very powerful instrument.
Logging is accomplished
thru a waterproof USB port. The meter has automatic salinity and barometric
pressure compensation. This makes it very versatile in any number of field
applications.
The meter has a built in user prompt for
calibration. And unlike many meters, this one can be calibrated at several
points. With the very fast polarographic sensor, the user need not wait for
lengthy instrument warm ups. Initialization is only one minute.

Measurements in the field can
subject instrumentation to the inclemency of weather. Cold, rain,
snow, dust and humidity, associated with use in the field, can cause
condensation which may damage a meter, rapidly deteriorating its
performance and life. HI 9143 and HI 9145 are designed for harsh
outdoor applications, especially waste water treatment and fish
farming. Simple on-site calibration requires no chemical solutions.
Just expose the probe to air and press the CAL button. In a few
minutes, the meter is calibrated and ready to use. Auto-calibration
eliminates the need to use a screwdriver or other devices to adjust
the reading. The new and improved HI 9143 and HI 9145 measure and

Calibration
HI 9141 and HI 91410 are
portable, printing D.O. meters designed for continuous monitoring and
recording at selectable time intervals. The low-power printer uses
regular paper that is easily sourced and will not fade over time. HI
91410 combines all of the comprehensive printing functions of the HI
9141, with the capability to log measurements. In addition to
supplying the user with instant print-outs of D.O., HI 91410 also
provides datalogging facilities that will store up to 8000 readings.
These measurements can be scrolled through at any time, printed or
even transferred to a computer system for elaboration or permanent
storage. An optional HI 9200 infrared transmitter can be used to take
the data from HI 91410 and send it to a computer without any cords.
Simply place the meter on the cradle and, at the touch of a button,
all of the recorded lots are transferred in seconds. This infrared
connection is important in humid environments, where a standard RS232
plug on a meter could become damaged. In addition to the automatic
calibration feature, both meters automatically compensate for two very
important parameters: altitude from 0 to 1900 meters (6230'), and
salinity from 0 to 40 g/L.
HI 9141 is supplied complete with D.O. probe HI 76407/4 with 4 m (13)
